Role Overview :

The Head of Department (Special Education) will oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of individualized educational programs (IEPs) and inclusive learning frameworks for neurodivergent learners at the India Autism Center (IAC). The HOD will ensure the delivery of evidence-based pedagogical practices, curriculum adaptations, and life-skill programs aligned with RCI, NIEPID, NICE, and APA standards.

The role demands visionary leadership to bridge education, therapy, and vocational training — ensuring holistic growth, functional independence, and inclusion across the learning continuum.

Core Responsibilities :

1. Departmental Leadership and Strategy

  • Lead the Special Education department’s vision, planning, and quality assurance framework.
  • Align curriculum and IEP development with RCI and international best practices.
  • Supervise educators, shadow teachers, and special education coordinators for consistent quality delivery.
  • Establish measurable learning outcomes, documentation systems, and evaluation cycles.
  • Liaise with the Academic Governance Committee for compliance and policy updates.

2. Educational Program Design

  • Oversee formulation and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Transition Plans.
  • Integrate therapeutic inputs (OT, SLT, Psychology) into academic planning.
  • Design functional literacy, numeracy, social skills, and adaptive behavior programs.
  • Introduce assistive technology and inclusive classroom strategies.

3. Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Integration

  • Coordinate with therapists and clinical heads for aligned intervention targets.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary review meetings and goal mapping.
  • Support inclusion pathways into mainstream education and vocational training.

4. Training, Research, and Quality Development

  • Conduct teacher training, workshops, and curriculum review sessions.
  • Facilitate educational research, documentation, and innovation in pedagogy.
  • Represent the department at conferences, review boards, and accreditation visits.

Requirements:

Key Qualities:

  • Deep understanding of neurodevelopmental learning profiles.
  • Leadership in staff management and interdepartmental coordination.
  • Advanced documentation, data tracking, and analytical skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive, ethical, and person-centered education.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Special Education / Education with specialization in Disabilities.
  • Valid RCI registration (mandatory).

Professional Experience:

  • 10–15 years of experience managing academic or rehabilitation education programs.
  • Expertise in IEP design, inclusive pedagogy, and curriculum leadership.
