Role Overview

India Autism Center (IAC) is developing a professional workforce capable of supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) across educational, residential, vocational, and community settings. The Faculty – Special Education will be responsible for delivering structured training programs to aspiring professionals, special educators, caregivers, and support personnel.

The role focuses on translating practical special education expertise into high-quality classroom teaching, field-based learning, and competency development for Trainees pursuing careers in autism support and disability services.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Academic Delivery

  • Deliver classroom teaching on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disability (ID), inclusive education, behaviour support, and educational interventions.
  • Teach both theoretical and practical aspects of special education and disability support.
  • Facilitate experiential learning through demonstrations, simulations, and practical exercises.
  • Evaluate student performance through assessments, assignments, and examinations.

Curriculum Development

  • Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of training curricula related to autism and developmental disabilities.
  • Develop lesson plans, presentations, case studies, assignments, and learning resources.
  • Ensure training content reflects current evidence-based practices and Indian disability regulations.
  • Develop competency frameworks for professionals and caregivers in the field of Neurodevelopmental Disability.
  • Create learning materials suitable for diverse learner backgrounds.

Student Mentorship & Field Learning

  • Mentor Trainees pursuing careers in autism support, special education, and developmental disability services.
  • Supervise Trainees during internships, practicum placements, and field visits.
  • Provide career guidance and professional development support.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary therapists, special schools, and rehabilitation centres for practical exposure opportunities.
  • Facilitate guest lectures, workshops, and practitioner-led learning sessions.
  • Maintain professional relationships with relevant sector experts and institutions.

Key Outcomes

  • Deliver high-quality training programs that prepare Trainees for careers in autism support and disability services.
  • Maintain student satisfaction and learning achievement targets established by IAC.
  • Develop and regularly update training content aligned with current autism and special education practices.
  • Ensure successful completion of student internships, practicum requirements, and competency assessments.
  • Contribute to building a skilled workforce capable of supporting individuals with ASD across multiple settings.

Must-Have Requirements

  • RCI-recognised B.Ed. Special Education (ASD/ID/IDD) or M.Ed. Special Education (ASD/ID/IDD).
  • Valid registration with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) / Central Rehabilitation Register (CRR). 
  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in special education, autism intervention, inclusive education, or related disability services.
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring Trainees, professionals, or aspiring practitioners in special education or autism support.
  • Strong understanding of Neurodevelopmental Disorders, ASD, Intellectual Disability, behaviour management, IEP development, functional academics, and inclusive education practices.
  • Excellent classroom facilitation, communication, and mentoring skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Workspace, Canva, and digital learning platforms.

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s in Psychology. 
  • Experience teaching in RCI-recognised teacher training programmes, universities, special education colleges, or professional certification programmes.
  • Experience supervising internships, practicum placements, or field-based learning.
  • Exposure to adult learning methodologies and professional education.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams including psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and special educators.
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum design and academic programme development.
  • Research, publication, or training workshop experience in autism or developmental disabilities.
