Role Overview

The Legal Associate will support India Autism Center’s legal, property, compliance, and governance functions by managing legal documentation, coordinating with external legal counsel, conducting due diligence activities, and ensuring regulatory compliance across the organisation’s operational and infrastructure initiatives.

The role will play a critical part in supporting land acquisition, property management, statutory registrations, contract administration, and legal documentation required for the organisation’s growth and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Functional

  • Review, organize and liaison with the legal team for documents such as agreements,contracts,  sale deeds, title documents, and MoUs.
  • Conduct property due diligence including title verification, encumbrance checks, and liaison with local authorities, courts or registrars.
  • Maintain records of property ownership  and transaction timelines.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel for property registration, mutation, and dispute resolution.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing vendor/contractor agreements.
  • Support legal compliance under the Land & land reforms Act.
  • Assist in preparing filings for registrations, annual returns, and audit documentation.
  • Liaise with Zilla Parishad, Fire, P&RD, Gram Panchayats on legal and compliance matters in relation to Building Sanction work.

General

  • Maintain organized documentation and digital filing systems.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare briefs, summaries, and reports.
  • Support contract management and internal record-keeping.
  • Assist in litigation and correspondence with advocates, if necessary.

Key Outcomes

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and accessible legal and property documentation records.
  • Ensure timely coordination of registrations, mutations, approvals, and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Support efficient contract management and legal documentation processes.
  • Facilitate smooth engagement with government authorities and external legal counsel.
  • Minimise legal and compliance risks through effective documentation, due diligence, and record management.

Must-Have Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognised university.
  • Strong understanding of property law, contract law, and legal documentation processes.
  • Experience in legal documentation, due diligence, compliance management, or related legal functions.
  • Ability to coordinate with government authorities, legal counsel, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong legal drafting, documentation, and research skills.
  • Excellent organizational and record-management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and document management systems.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience handling property transactions, land records, title verification, or infrastructure-related legal matters.
  • Familiarity with registration, mutation, land conversion, and local authority approval processes.
  • Experience working with NGOs, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, or real estate/infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of West Bengal land and local governance regulations.
  • Exposure to litigation support and dispute resolution processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple legal matters and deadlines simultaneously.
